I imagine the drive shafts in my '75 Club are original and theres some angular movement which i suspect is responsible for some of my vibration on take off. Also, when applying the handbrake on a hill there is some rollback as the rotate.

Did Citroen in their wisdom ever specify a limit for spline wear or is anyone have any advice?

Two or three strokes of the grease gun. Check that the gaiter is not split and is only clipped on the inner (large) end. Drive and enjoy. Don't worry too much.
