Hi legends, I've started this thread as i am half way through rebuilding my 2cv and would like to hear other peoples recommendations for any type of mod that they have done to improve there 2cv... Be it for raiding, racing or rooting, whatever... Any ideas above and beyond general maintenance... big or small, practical or ridiculous... What I have done so far to make it more practical/modern... Megasquirt efi Twin spark 652cc 123 ignition LNA Gearbox Yellow Coil Reed valve engine breather Captured fan housing bolt (allen key bolt that pulls the fan off as it is undone) Larger oil filter with Temp and pressure gauges Cylinder head temp gauge Uprated Springs 20% Roof Entendach Superior Reinforced chassis, PO spec. Twin spark 652cc What I am about to do: Replace the steering track ends with rose joints, Joolz inspired. Oil Accumulator and Oil Sandwich Plate thermostat Modified oil circuit What I think would be worth looking at: Grease nipples! where to retro fit them for easy serviceability and long life! Steering rack guide ring, replace with a nylon bush? So if there is anything you have thought is worth an improvement, lets hear it! Cheers, Harley |

Braided oil feed pipes to the head, I assume visa engines also have these, but if not they seem to be a better idea than the rusty fatigued Citroen versions. |

( .Y. ) natural not silicon! absolutley nothing apart from a method of removing the condensor from the points set up "improvements" often come with added complexity and thats not what the car is about in my view. Some little bits to make maintenance easier grease points on the rack: some stuff to repair the original bits that broke/wear out when the replacements are sub standard - copper oil lines to heads, silicone valve in the breather. My 2 cents. 1 - Grease nipples on any bearings. Cost effective - (Grease Nipple + labour) vs cost of bearings. 2 - Wiring Loom - Use thinwall cable, pre-insulated terminals and a few relays. |

Some more thoughts... 1. Take circuit board off 123 and seal with mastic to waterproof it. Likewise for where cables come out. 2. Put relays & fuses in plasticclip lid lunchbox on bulkhead. (Fix lid to bulkhead). This keeps them waterproof. 3. Make quick release lighting bar by using caravan to bar electrics 4. Fit 12v small computer fans above rear window to demist when damp and blow air round car when warm. I can probably sort some photos of these if required...let me know... |

Demist the rear window using just the PC fans - is that really efficient?! I usually use a closed umbrella with a cloth on top of it. It works but it isn't comfortable...

Well I've had them in the 4x4 sine 2004. Worked fine in raid Laponie -28c and Raid Poronkusema 2009. Been thru deep water at Langdale quest and the whole car steams up and the back screen always demists. You can see them in the rear window here, I have 5 ripped out of old computers. 60mm draw less than 0.2 amps each!  I'll try todig out a better photo later. |

Nice ideas guys, I pulled apart my rack yesterday and was pleasantly surprised at how little wear & tear there was, although the pinion bearing feels a bit lumpy there is no play in it at all, so i think it will last another decade no problems. The grease nipples seem the smart way to go, I can see the practicality of having them on the suspension arm bearings but where to put one on the steering rack? Having had the rack apart I can see that a lot of the original grease has sat there untouched for many years... This looks like a good solution but I guess it will only grease the pinion bearing:  Relays and waterproof fuse box is a win as is improved oil feed lines. CHeers, Harley |
