See when they are ruining your a series
Local authorities are tweeting when they grit, and how much. Useful to know so you know when to clean off the car! Here's west sussex's version https://www.westsussex.gov.uk/apps/link ... nkID=21665

To be fair I'd rather deal with a little rust than the results of it sliding into a wall, or someone else sliding into it.

Oh I agree, I don't condone what they do. Ive had many close shaves once in a car and bike before. Just thought it was quite cool!

Old saabs and volvos?
think they have mandatory winter tyres - wide open spaces, citizens with a sense of society and when its winter it stays winter for a while.
we on the otherhand.....

Re: See when they are ruining your a series
We just cant handle winter here, best winter report EVER was the time that snow had "drifted" up to 2" on the M11 causing chaos about 6 or 7 yrs ago- vox pop news report of a woman who had been stranded in her car for a few hours "it was ridiculous! nobody came to save us, we had to eat snow to survive" best of all was she probably could have gone a week with out a meal for her own good ben wrote: Predictably more sensible then

Re: See when they are ruining your a series
Salt only lowers the freezing point of water by a few degrees, can't remember how much exactly but I think by the time you get below -5* it doesn't do any good, so no use in Scandinavia. Don't know if they still use grit though, and pretty sure using winter/snow tyres is standard.

Re: See when they are ruining your a series
2010 our local authority was one of them that ran out of salt, so on the backroads they simply ploughed it smooth then gritted it. They were better than driving on salted wet roads but then it stayed at or below freezing for nearly a month.
