Guys yesterday i found a spring that looks like the one on the accelarator but it is shorter ( around 3cm-4cm). I found it in the fan's housing and it looks dirty ( meaning it must be somewhere out). Another thing that concerns me a lot is that i am hearing a tiking from the left side of the engine. The noise is not metalic and i was looking if there is a connectikon between the spring and the noise. Please advice. |

is it a spring off your headlight adjustment rod? there should be 2 where the rod joins the headlight bar. |

Pavlos, Would you say its more a "tapping" sound?? it could be the valve clearences |

there can be springs attached to the heating systems-valves, for heat or no heat when the spring is gone the valves can vibrate so make noise.... |

On the orher hand i don't remember noticing any spring during installation. but if there isnt any spring around there then this has to be. the one. I checked the valve clearance and it is ok. |

Valve clearances tend to 'tap' it's nothing to be concerned about tbh |

ok guys i found the location of the springs and i bought a pair today. I ll leave the rest trying to get the 2cv on the road as soon as possible . then i ll look that sound too. |

I got my valves adjust the way that is on the sticky . But after two adjustments (both exhaust and intake .25) i am still hearing this tapping sound. A friend of mine told me that i don't have to worry cause the rods that are pushing the valves get smaller by the time so there is a tapping sound. But i think that this maybe not my problem cause if it were then i should listen this sound from both of the cylinders. Is there any signs of not well adjustment valves when you are driving ? |

There should be a gap and there should be a noise when its working " a tappy tappet is a happy tappet" is a well known saying, the adjustable rocker arm is known in English as a "tappet" due to the sound it makes. An aircooled engine is much more resonant due to the cooling fins and so will sound loud if you are used to water cooled engines with hydralic valve gear. It is most noisy when cold If the engine gets so it wont start when its hot then that is a sign that the gap has closed and the valves are slightly open. The pushrods do not normally wear its when the valve head and its seat start to wear out that the gap closes. other noises can be piston slap if the pistons are worn or fitted wrong and the "little ends" (english)- "wrist pin bushes" (US eng) Sean |
