 Manifold removel
Right, on my dyane engine the manifold came off easy peasy lemon squeezy On my car, that's not going to be the case, I've got a nut splitter, has anyone used one on a manifold nut? What where the results Would it be best to buy a stud extractor too and renew the studs, or would that cause more grief? Just getting the nut on will be interesting! Reason I ask is I'm renewing the oil feed pipes soon, and seeing as I have the cowling off I might as well get the rubber shrouds off in favour off some metal tinny's

sharp chisel split the other nuts off by Sean602, on Flickr dont take the studs out unless they are too far gone as they will be corroded at the other end, this drags up through the thread as you unscrew them and may cause damage to the threads in the ally resulting in weak or wobbly studs. brass nuts shakeproof washers and lots of copper grease on re assembly- jobs a goodun.

Much better to destroy the nut getting it off, either splitting it with a chisel as Ken(or in this case Sean) said, cutting one side off with a grinder or hacksaw, or drilling into it to weaken it before knocking it off with a chisel.
Even when it looks realy crusty from the outside, the thread under the nut is usually quite serviceable, so don't try and get the studs out unless they come out on their own. Minor damage to the thread isn't too much to worry about, it can be cleaned up afterwards with a die nut.
DO NOT BREAK THE STUD! I've got some pictures to go with this but they're not in my photobucket, must be still on the camera.
