Post Points setting using a dwell meter
It's been 4 years and almost 20k miles since I last replaced my 2cv's points and since last summer top speed as measured by FatChav has dropped from 74mph to 62mph (not bad considering my car is far heavier than standard and officially could only do 71mph when brand new). After a thorough service and no speed increase all I have left to do are the points and timing.

I just need a reminder: correct dwell angle is 58° to 62°, but the meter has selectors for 3, 4, 5, 6, 8, and 12 cylinders; I'm going to select 4 cylinders but do I halve or double the meter read-out to compensate? My last dwell meter had a 2 cyl setting, but was stolen by a scrote ages ago.

Bump...

Anyone...

I just hate using feeler gauges when dwell meters are so much more accurate!

Its 58% to 62%
which is 106° to 112°
I set my meter to 4 cyl and look for 53° on it at a fast idle as the reading will vary when you rev it.

See your not alone ;)

Cheers Sean. Will nip outside and do it when the rain eases off a wee bit!
