Post subject:  Best stuff for rustproofing a chassis

With winter coming on, and having decided to keep the Ami as my everyday car, I've decided that rustproofing and painting the chassis and underside of the cab would be a good idea. Problem is, there's a bewildering variety of products out there, all of which seem to attract roughly equal numbers of people saying they're the best things since sliced bread, or rubbish. What do you lot use?

You can buy it, and associated products, here. It's also on ebay.

You beat me to it!!! I was going to ask exactly the same thing.....I was reading up on Waxoyl the other day too, on piston-heads forum. Doesn't get a good press at all....some reckon it's best avoided so you can see where / if the rust is coming through rather than hide it.....i buy that logic

also, given up on stopping leaks into the foot well - gonna get my drills out and make some drain holes....

The chassis' rust from the inside out, not the outside in. It's impractical to paint inside a chassis. A rust proofing wax, properly applied, will prevent that type of corrosion. Epoxy primer is good stuff, but it is for protecting the outside of the chassis, in my view there isn't a single solution to prevent rusting. You need to exclude water, prevent moisture and oxygen get to the metal, don't allow dirt that holds moisture to build up.

I tend to thin the initial application of rust wax with Duck oil to help carry it into the seams.
