Post Yellow Headlights
After spotting quite a few older cars with the yellow headlights at the puddleducks camp this week-end the wife would like to know if she is "allowed" to have yellow headlights on her car?

I know it used to be a requirement when "we" drove in France for UK drivers to have to paint our lights so that they were yellow but this appears to be be no longer the case..

Any comments??...

I've had yellow headlight bulbs for about 2 years now, no legal issues from plod or the MOT man.

Don't put them on till next April. The days are longer then so you you'll actually be able to see where you're going.

Put your yellow bulbs in now, so you cant see f-all in normal conditions, other than signs 40 miles away, but in extreme weather conditions you can see EVERYTHING.

I've had yellow bulbs fitted since I've had 2CVs (c1997) t'is fine, no issues with MOT or 'ossefers' of the law. I also find no problem with driving at night, I have eyes.

Limit towards red y >= 0.138 + 0.580 x
Limit towards green y <= 1.290 x - 0.100
Limit towards white y >= 0.966 - x
Limit towards spectral value y <= 0.992 - x

Sun appears yellowish (rather than blueish) because its blue spectrum has been scattered and reflected away into the sky - the sky is blue because it's reflected light. When it's wet and roads are full of spray, misty or foggy, the last thing you want is unnecessary reflected light. When it's clear and dry, the 5-10% loss in lumens (which happens with yellow bulb filters/paint, and which will be equalled by poor electrical connectors/wiring) is neither here nor there, except when badly aligned/coming over a crest HID bulbs frazzle your retinas!

The only decent headlamps are those with a massive surface area of reflection and yellow bulbs. These modern brilliant lamps create shadows which are too dark for my liking. In my opinion.

The French only ditched their yellow bulbs to become 'Good Europeans'.

I think the yellow bulbs have a certain French Resistance chic and I would love a pair. Where can I get them?
