Hi there - this is a similar problem to one which Eastbourne2cv had a while back- Sidelights work, main beams work, but when the switch is at "R" and pushed away, then I get nothing... Had the switch apart, bent the contacts and a test lamp indicates that all's well at the switch end, i.e. the green wire (which I believe is the dipped output) is live when the switch is at R. I believe I've got the dim-dip system (well I did before the car was rechassised (is that how you spell it??)) and I don't think it's been disconnected, but this problem has occured all of a sudden. Does dim-dip fail just like that, or should I be looking elsewhere? |

Will be one of the two relays on the bulkhead next to battery, you need to by-pass the relay (and so the dim-dip) and all will be well. ![]() |

One of the 2 relays associated with the dim-dip setup isn't working. My advice would be to take the opportunity to get rid of the dim-dip nonsense before it cooks your light switch. ![]() ken ( p.s. Faster typing by Jonathan... ![]() |

Gosh, those were quick responses, Jonathan and Ken! Will putting a jumper on the relay work in isolation, or do I have to do anything else? Trouble is, I won't be able to muck around with it now 'til next weekend in order to give a progress report! |

Unplug (what's left of) the resistor hanging off the chassis front cross member and the diode which is strapped to the flasher canister near the steering column. File both in the bin, unless you can be bothered to post the diode to me, when I'll send you enough to cover p&p. ![]() ken ![]() Jumper lead to bypass dim dip by slcchassis, on Flickr Ouvrier wrote: Gosh, those were quick responses, Jonathan and Ken! Head down to the scrappy and stick your head under the bonnet of a low-rent AX, as they appear to also have this system. Mine did, anyway, but it was part of the wiring that I threw in the skip otherwise you'd have been welcome to it. |

Fit them on Dyanes, as part of a little dodge to run the brake lights at reduced wattage, supplementing the (feeble) standard 4w tail lights. The diode prevents the side lights and tail lights coming on with the brake lights, so it's a sort of 'dim-dip in reverse' but a lot simpler... ken.
