Post Solex 26/35 emissions
Just spent a couple of hours cleaning my 2CV carb and installing an overhaul kit. Only got one O ring left over which I reckon is a result ;) Just wondering is there a good starting point for setting the idle jet i.e. number of turns out? Any other tips before I re-install it warmly welcomed thanks.

It depends if you mean the Idle Jet or the Idle mixture screw - as far I am aware the Idle Jet - the one that is horizontally placed at the front of the carb made of brass and has holes
drilled around the tip - should be screwed in to the body of the carb fully.

The Idle mixture screw is the one that has a screw head on it and is at a 45 degree angle out of the bottom of the carb - some recommend that correct position for this is two or two and a half screw turns out from fully in but it is often a matter of trial and error - you can set the revs to around 800rpm on the throttle stop screw then screw the mixture screw in until either it runs smoother and just back off when the revs die or if they die as you screw in turn out until they pick up......

Hope this helps

Thanks Nelsthebass you're quite right I meant the idle mixture screw - sorry for the bad terminology. I refitted the refurbed carb and started with it 3.5 turns out and it wouldn't tick over once warm. It also had a bad flat spot when flooring the throttle sometimes causing a blow back through the carb. So I kept winding out the screw and the revs rose for a time then started to tail off. I eventually found a "sweet spot" where the engine ticked over smoothly and a blip of throttle resulted in a fairly immediate response without a carb backfire. Not perfect but loads better than it was. I'm going to Witney in the car tomorrow so will be able to report back on the performance. Thanks for your kind advice.
