 battery wont hold its charge
Hey everyone,
Does anyone have a simple solution for the battery not holding its charge??? Is it the alternator or voltage regulator?? Its on a 1984 2cv6 special Beachcomber.
Cheers

Jack If the car is charging [simple test, do the headlights get brighter when you rev the engine] then the simple solution is to buy a new battery.

No they dont.
I had the battery on charge last night - via an external charger - and just started her up and checked everyything, all is working in and out. But the lights dont get brighter when the engine is revved. Plus the battery is only 2-3 months old.
Anymore easy tests/fixes????

Jack Do you have a multi meter to test the output of the alternator. The likelihood is that the brushes have worn out in the alternator. On most alternators this is a cartridge type affair which can be removed with one or two screws at the back of the alternator. Cheap as chips to buy.
