The casing of my alternator gets very hot after just a few miles. Is this normal? LED is showing 14.4 +/- volts Panel meter needle to the right. |

If you assume anything on the Snail is normal you are apt to be in for a big surprise! I am referring to the alternator casing, not the pulley cover. |

It is bolted to the exhaust manifold, so I wouldn't be too surprised if it's warm. So long as none of it's melting, and it's charging ok I'd say it's probably fine. |

Hi socarco. I've noticed mine very quickly gets pretty warm/hot too and assumed it's normal, because when you first fire up the car, the alternator is doing it's biggest job in recharging the battery so it doesn't surprise me at all. You mentioned the 'pulley cover', so I assume you have one and it's fitted! Things might well get too hot without one. |

the way ive looked at it, that its creating a charge so surely its going to get hot? bit like the engine is creating power and in the proccess gets hot |
