I'm trying to replace the sill on my 2cv as part of some general rust eradication duties. I've got it off, but have the remainder around the B-Post still in place:



How does everyone normally unpick this area? I can't see the shape of the original saddle, so not sure how many times this has been plated over the years. Apologies for the shaky camera shots...

depends on how its beed done in the past looks like it may have been replacement sills

ok cut vertically down either side of the saddle part.
Then slot horizontal across the front face.
remove the bottom plate of the sill so now you have an upside down "J" of original sill

if there is mig weld either side of the saddle grind off at 45* to get the metal to part

There may also be spot or plug welds through the saddle , through the sill metal and the seat belt stiffner sand paper the area and find the welds and drill or grind out.

Then grip the bit of outer sill that points down under the saddle and wind it round like an old sardine can. with luck and more grinding it will all come out

Thanks for going to the effort of annotating my photo - turns out that where I had ground the faces of the sill (red dots) had fused the saddle and the sill together - thus making it difficult to see where the sill started and the saddle stopped. Little bit more grinding and a persuading flat blade and they popped apart and sill dropped to the floor.

Now to weld the new sill in! I've got two to choose from. One zintec sill which has a flat front end (making the sill to outer toeboard a bit more involved) or a non-zintec sill which has an angled front end.
Hmmm.

Youll find that the slope works against you at the front and will involve a fair bit of chopping out at the front. Ive seen one 2CV garage fit the sill with the open end poking out the lower bulkhead, lets the sill dry out and gives easy access to the rustproofer lance.

Fitting the sill once its all been cleared out is to offer up the sill- hold it in with rear seatbelt bolt, you may have to partially cut/slit the sill where its covered by the saddle as replacements sometimes come with the wrong rocker the slit allows you to bend it, tack it and finally fully weld it to the correct shape.
once it all fits put the back door on and close it - this locates the B pillar in proper place and then tack to C pillar tack the B and then tack the A - remove rear door and fully weld.

Ps be sure to jack up the body so you dont weld in a degree of sag when it comes to welding the whole thing up i usually have a bottle jack on seat box by C pillar and one on bulkhead by the A pillar
