Which had been stored for 20 years.

New fuel pump, new fuel hoses, reset points and valve clearances and new oil. Also had to temporarily fit the carb from my running Charlie as I suspect the diaphragms in the original one are shot.

Runs booooooootifully :D

Did a cold compression test before starting her up - 150psi on offside, and 160 psi on near (I wonder why the difference?) Once running, I tested the engine vacuum with a manometer - 4" at idle which fell to almost zero on fast idle (I'd guess ~2k) and then it built up to 4" again with revs increased above this. What causes this 'dip' at fast idle? Is it ok?

Slight noise from clutch - a 'hissing' sound - at one precise point when it is released slowly; I guess at 'biting' point (even if not in gear)? I guess the bearing will be a little dry? I can live with that (until it goes...).

Now to respray the bonnet and front wings - peppered with small rust specks in the paintwork - and the bumpers...

Hi James.

I made a thread on this amazing car when I first bought it last year - it's on the 'Your A-series' forum, and I guess it's time to resurrect it now that I'm finally getting it sorted :)

It's an '89 Special (yep, Portuguese... :( ) and I have its complete history from day one. Name of first owner who ran it for 13 months, the newspaper advert showing it subsequently for sale (for £2,250, I think - off t'top of me 'ead), the sales receipt for the next owner who bought it for Sunday drives - but who never seemed to find the time. And this owner - who moved, taking the car with him on a trailer, and who ended up on the same road as me - noticed my ageing Charlie as he drove past one day. And stopped for a chat...

Apart from the cosmetic specks on the paintwork, the car has no rust whatsoever and is sitting on a perfect, original chassis. Interior not only looks like new, but smells it too...

Salivating yet :P

almost not worth using it!!!

id do a few odd things if it where mine and remove original chassis and store it somewhere (i bet there wont be many truly original ones left soon) and such!

That's 'odd' indeed! Even by your standards :P
