Because the front oil seal is leaking.....

It may just be the crank case pressurisation issue rather than a terminal seal.

I assume there's an oil seal on the end of the cam behind the advance weights? Nothing too involved or owt?

No seal on the camshaft, only an oil return scroll like that on the gearbox input shaft...

Crankcase vacuum test? :(

No seal Russell but a oil sling cut in to the cam shaft, keeping the oil out. Sound the crankcase ventilation is kaput (oil breather)

I still haven't done one of those. It's had a new breather this week since the one I rebuilt had a hole in it. I'll stick a new set of points in it and mop it and see what happens.

Thanks guys.

There's a seal on the crank that can dribble into the point box. I'd check the easy stuff first though. Gasket on the reniflard, crank case pressurisation..

I have a new (pattern Cassis) reniflard that's been put together incorrectly; it's twisted and hits the fan housing. You're welcome to it if you want to cut it apart and fix it.

At least I know where to come if I need a spare...

Thanks 2-fiddy, I'm going to re-flap this one at some point.
