Post So what is the best way to adjust track rod ends?
As the topic says, any help would be great.
I have fitted new arms, ends, springs and cups, and a greaseable end cap.I have also drilled the blind end and fitted another grease nipple so I can grease both ends.
I have read the Haynes mannual, but have just read on 2cvgb that it is best to adjust on full lock.
Your input would be helpfull.

dont you trust me with my 2cvgb hat on

and for those with no access to 2cvgb....

the ones in the picture above are by no means scrap

what you have to avoid is following Haynes instructions to the letter and having only 1/16th of a screw pitch movement in the spring."Tighten the cup screw fully and back off 1/16th of a turn", as its a 1.5mm pitch thread this gives the spring only 0.09mm before the coils touch and the spring effectively becomes a solid element- it becomes coil bound,or the cup bottoms out in its housing and the steering stiffens, locks or strains the ball end.

The factory manual states 1/6th of a turn so as long as the ball is no more than 0.25mm out of round your ok.

however a much more pragmatic way is to adjust the track rod end with the steering on full lock so that adjustment is made to the widest part of the ball end and back off 1/6th of a turn or possibly 1/4.
