 2CV wiring
I've been sorting out the guddle behind the speedo that passes for wiring on my 2CV, and it appears that Citroen have their own take on which lights should be on at any given switch position.
What I ended up with was;-
Position 1: lights off (so far, so good).
Position 2 dip switch in dip position: side lights and dipped beam on + fog light if switched on.
Position 2 dip switch in main position: side lights on (no fog light).
Position 3 dip switch in dip position: side lights and dipped beam on + fog light if switched on.
Position 3 dip switch in main position: side lights and main beam on (no fog light).
This, much to my surprise, appears to tally with the wiring diagram Fig 12.44 on page 198 of my Haynes manual.
Can somebody please confirm that I've got that right, or tell me I've got it completely wrong. If I've worked it out right, it seems a pretty eccentric way of doing it. To me, anyway.
Cheers,
John

 Re: 2CV wiring
That sounds pretty normal for a 2cv to me.

 Re: 2CV wiring
Yep I think that is correct... ...and it makes some sense...honestly !!! Fog light should be on only when on dipped beam. Also it gives you "parking/side lights" that I guess no one ever uses as such, but in the "position 3" you can drive with it in "dip" position as normal and go to full beam when needed by just pushing in and out. But remember that you need to also be able to push your end in so that your horn goes off.

 Re: 2CV wiring
Oh good, it's not me, it's Citroen.
Yeah, I can see the sense of it, it's just not what I'm used to, I guess.
The horn works okay, thanks. It was about the only thing I didn't have to sort out.
Cheers, guys.

 Re: 2CV wiring
John, the sidelights stay on in all positions
V(ville or town) on the stalk should give you sidelights or dipped and sidelights
R(route or country) on the stalk is mains (and sides) and dipped (and sides).
the fog light is linked to the dipped and will only work when dipped are on.
dim dip has been bypassed on this car.
all was fine on Saturday.

 Re: 2CV wiring
Same here, knew it must mean something in French, never thought about it much more than that!

all was fine on Saturday. Hi Sean. Wasn't quite as fine after I'd put the indicator repeater in; I no longer had a hazard light repeater. Also, the foglight warning light only seemed to come on between the switch positions. Lastly, the fuel gauge wasn't working right. To be honest, it may well have been working okay; I hadn't realised that it wasn't the usual system until I got in amongst it. Now I've got a pretty good idea of how it works and hopefully, when I finish tidying it up, it'll all fit a bit better than it did. I had no idea that R and V meant Route and Ville. You live and learn. I thought it probably meant Sidelights and Headlights. Thanks again, John
