i have a 4x4 and a new reconditioned engine in there, which needs running in. It used to be fine, but as it has been driven more it will not idle it just dies, but restarts first time..and revs it is fine could it be the timing off the 123? even with the choke right in it still dies. Power of the engine is not a problem atall.. plenty of that but just cant idle. Any ideas? thanks |

Worth checking the the idle jet as this can get blocked. It is located at the front of the carb on the side, under wher the fuel feed pipe joins. Its brass and and needs an 8mm spanner to undo iirc. |

first of all i tightened it and it was worse then i un did it.. it was to tight i think.. but maybe now in water the water will get in the carb hope not! sorry my bad grammer!! |

Hi Twocyli, I note that you have a 4 X 4 and 123 ignition. Now you are worrying about water getting into the carby. Firstly, have you "waterproofed" the 123 with silicone, because if the 123 gets water in it, it is finished. I have a Raid 2CV with 123 ignition (which I waterproofed) and a town 2CV with Luminition. I am considering swapping them around, using the Luminition for the Raid car. This is because the electronics sit high on the firewall (as high as the battery) away from the water when crossing creeks. The infra red cutter in the points box isn't effected by water. Daffy duck I am just about to cover my 123 in silcone as it will be in alot of water on saturday. i have already ruined 2 123's because of water! How would you waterproof the carb? i am looking for ideas! I will be putting a plastic matting infront of the fan and we have a snorkel pipe some where My car will have the water up past the bonnet without conking out but i have a new rebuild engine now so who knows! thanks for your post |
