Not connected to my previous posting below, but reading up on some recent tech threads I can't help but think that some people are hellbent on 'let's try and improve on something that was perfect to begin with' and will probably end up ruining their car. I'd personally leave the clutch and flywheel well alone as they do their job ;) . I just drives my 2CV with abandon and just enjoys the drive. It's like I've said to Spanners of this parish-I jumps in the 2CV and know I'll get there, whereas with the modern hack (the C4) I'm constantly worried that a warning light or three will appear on the display accompanied with a dreaded beep and the cure will cost not only an arm and a leg but quite a bit more besides. If it ain't broke, don't fix it!! :)

I'm not sure how me fitting a heavy flywheel will ruin my car. It was a fitment on ealier cars and as I tie with my car it can only be a help having more torque.

If people followed by the 'it ain't broke don't fix it' we'd all be living in caves as cave men

People try things for a reason. I personally would rather try something and fck it up and learn than to take a back seat on the band wagon!
Sorry rant over!

I'm quite shocked, that's a very valid point James!

flywheels dont GIVE an engine more torque

its down to volumeric efficiency - how it shifts the gases in and out, a heavy flywheel is an energy store and so it may give the apperance of a bit of oompf over very short distances but youve got to spin it back up once your over the junction

"1kg lost from the rotating stuff in the engine gives an equivalent saving of 20 kg of load in the cab" is an often touted trueism

Ref Heavy flywheel. On my old Dyane 6, I rebuild the engine and bought a lightened flywheel - big mistake as yes the engine revs faster when standing still but on the move as in town driving it meant the car was harder to drive as the heavy flywheel gave ''not more torque'' but helped the engine to spin at lower rpms. Same with hills.

I didnt read all topic... but...

Question was...

Tyres, Chassis, Oil and Tappets

Tyres... For many years I used old tyres... very old, and I learn how to drive in that situation. For many years I had TIGAR tyres... last one of my set was made in 1988 and I used them until 2007. On AK350, 2CV, Dyane, AMI... allways same set of old tyres. I survive... than I bought new set... I almost kill myself with that new shit. My wife turn over her Dyane with Michelin tyres ... but, we are crazy drivers in our family.

Chassis ... allways original, repaired....

Oil ... 15W40 or 20W50 no name... never had problems. But best result was with INA oil.

Tappets ? Valves? ... 0,20 mm

ha ha !
the thread was meant to be somewhere the moderators would move discussions on tyres, oil tappets and chassis when it descends in to a slagging match that's boring for anyone else apart from the contenders.

however its just somewhere where people seem to post their own preferances :)

One thing I just remembered now... what happened in raid OZ 2000. One guy broke that triangular plate that hold front shock absorber on front arm. Panic was on high level ... :) Than me and my friend arrive by. And I offered help. As we had AMI chassis I had spare triangular plate from AMI.

What happend next...

A lot of philosopie about that triangular plate... it will not fit, it is from different car, it is not possible...

On the end that guy made 4000 km with Ami plate on 2CV.

Do not coplicate your life... Citroen made perfect range of 2cv cars. Just drive them...
