Hi

Okay, so on the Ami, in the past someone has switched from a front bench seat to singles. In the process they have used the rear middle seat runner bolts, with lots of washers to attach the seat belt anchors (the bits you click the seat belt into) to the floor of the car. I noticed today that the bolt had come really loose (shit! that's really dangerous :roll: :roll: )....

so, as i was tightening it back up i realised - why of earth didn't they use the actual anchor bolt 'holes'* that are cleverly located under they're own little spring-loaded lid by the chassis VIN plate....

I'm going to use them - but I don't have any of the right sized bolts, and do they need to be a certain type to withstand force in an accident?

As ever, all and any help or advice would be much appreciated

*what do you call the threaded hole that a bolt screws into (other than a nut)

Seat belt anchor bolts are special in that they usually have shallow heads and have a shoulder to take a wavy washer. Captive nut is what you are looking for. ;)

They are mounted the same in my Ami, and also with the bolt holes near the VIN plate.
On my car they used a spring with 2 washers instead of lots of washers.

size don't know and can't find it anywhere atm, but a 2cv parts dealer should have them...

hi tom - so are your seatbelts bolted into the proper holes near the VIN plate?
it seems odd that your previous owner and mine didn';t use the proper holes...maybe the holes on the seat belt anchors are too small for a proper bolt?? thanks anyway, and thanks Knightley too...

Not yet, so still mounted with the seat runner bolt.
Within two weeks there's a 2cv/A-type parts market, where I going to look for two bolts (and a sidemirror for the 2cv)

The seatbelts i've got in the Ami, are 2cv (inertia) ones, so the bolts should fit the anchors.

They're imperial and standardised. The seat belt bolts out of any (European?) car will fit.

SAE have been known as UNF for a long time... ;)

I'd avoid those seat belt bolts which have shallow heads, as the spanner or socket can slip so easily on them.

I still cant get those imperial nomenclatures right

I had an old pre unit Triumph which had all sorts of threads and was a nightmare Cycle fine on frame & fixings UNF liberally scattered about- fork yokes etc, Whitworth on the castings and BA in the fiddly bits.

Yep,
when folk use leftover bolts and nuts from old Brit bikes to build specials, particularly a certain 3-wheeled type, that's when the fun starts.

It's not often I lose my temper, but working on one of those has been known to result in spanners being thrown around... :lol:
