So no less than 90mm is what we look for?

That's to the wrong side of the straightedge.

Will take another photograph tomorrow, I reckon that 'around' 54mm is OK.
But, if anyone's got a new rocker cover, that would be much better to work from.

Oh yes. How silly of me. Should have looked at the picture for longer and got my brain in gear. :D

Nice one.
Valve clearance 0.20 not 0.25

I knew someione would pick me up on that :D ... as it happens, I set all four valves to 0.20mm, and always have, and I've never had a problem. But I know that conventional wisdom has it that exhaust valves are set slightly wider to avoid burning them.

I don't think that's a dyane engine. My money is on it being a D*lly engine. I suspect plum and custard. I might be wrong though.

Thanks for the guide, I'll sticky it. And upset everybody by announcing that I did mine by eye last time, and I don't even care if you tut!

It's the Ami engine, complete with misleading Dyane cowling. And if these were the valves you set by eye, they were bang on. 8-)

RT,
very nice work.
A couple of comments...

You didn't make any mention of checking the torque on the cylinder head nuts before setting the valves, which might be useful if this is to be a standalone 'how to' item.

Maybe a bit about checking (and 'adjusting') the amount of dishing on the rocker covers, especially if they've got bite marks from the rockers clouting them.

(Tried taking a photograph this evening, showing to how check if a cover has been squashed out of shape, but the focus wasn't too good...

That's what I thought, I got that engine out of a p+c D*lly! What do I win?

Doing that with bottles results in VERY tappy tappets, though.
