Thread Hi Jack, springs to mind. Cloudy did a good job with the photos now its disappeared to page three while a massive un-winable debate rages about the right and wrongs of .05 of a mm.

The debate over whether size is important predates the 2CV I do believe...

Horses for courses follow the tutorial and set the valves to your preferred gap its got to be better than too much or too little

I don't think that's a dyane engine. My money is on it being a D*lly engine. I suspect plum and custard. I might be wrong though.

Thanks for the guide, I'll sticky it. And upset everybody by announcing that I did mine by eye last time, and I don't even care if you tut!

1/4 turn = 0.25mm.
Works fine if you can't be bothered to track down the feeler gauges... ;)

I'm now tempted to stick a vernier on various easier to track down items like fag packets, stanley blades and thumbnails.

So all break downs are related to valve clearance

Absolutely, get the valve clearances right and your chassis won't break, your coil and points will last indefinitely, rust is but a distant memory, your hood will be perfectly water tight, your king pins will never chatter, your battery will be charged at 14.3 volts precisely and you never need change the oil again as long as you use a Purflux oil filter. 8-)

Dam....so my problems are all about the oill filter, brought mine from Halfords!

Russ...and all....hasnt that engine a cowling with air thingy on it, so not a D*lly, but Ami or Dyane.

Anyway as said....nice....infact great set of pics and whatever gap I go for like to see lovely illustrated pics of how to do stuff. Nice one

RT,
very nice work.
A couple of comments...

You didn't make any mention of checking the torque on the cylinder head nuts before setting the valves, which might be useful if this is to be a standalone 'how to' item.

Maybe a bit about checking (and 'adjusting') the amount of dishing on the rocker covers, especially if they've got bite marks from the rockers clouting them.

(Tried taking a photograph this evening, showing to how check if a cover has been squashed out of shape, but the focus wasn't too good...
