my plans are to take a week off work, take the body off, attack any rust underneath and on chassis, re wax oil to the extreme, then put back on chassis in a week
doable?
providing i dont find anything nasty
and is there anything difficult about dis connecting brakes etc???? i dont like fiddling with brakes :(

James, its not a difficult job to do,but you may be opening a can of worms in doing so.Your car,in one piece,as is,is probably solid, but you just don't know what you will find,so best leave as is. ;)

Leave it alone. There's nothing wrong with it.

And if you do want to do it or need to for some reason, wait till slightly better weather and come over to my place and Ive got the space and gear to give you a hand. Any problems we can sort....but as they say above...leave alone unless you need to....thinking can of bulkhead worms here!!!

PS ....it will cost you a few beers and you can take that dam engine away that you have been pestering me for

Getting the body off the chassis is easy. Making good all the corrosion you'll almost certainly find, and getting teh body back onto the chassis afterwards, is the difficult bit. :)
As others have said, leave it alone until it really needs doing.

James,

Sent you PM about the engine.

Seriously what people here are saying is right. Its certainly do-able, but its all the things you will find. If you need to actually change the chassis or sort out bulkhead, etc then we can do it if you have a reason. On that basis I would be very happy to help you. But I wouldnt do it unless you need to.

However did someone say beer ?

Ive done a few chassis swaps over the years, but I dont proffess to be an expert. However I do have two to do this year and as you are only up the road, you would be welcome to come over give me a hand or watch etc, one has a totally gone chassis, bulkhead sagging over the edge and this car is needing it badly. The other is an older car and again the chassis has been botched so much its time for a new one. So you could see whats involved if you want to.

regards,

John

As others have said there is really no point. You can see the floor on the photo below, the green is floor, the centre is the chassis. Thre floor only overlaps the chassis by 2cm or so.

Even if the toe board needs changing it can be done with the shell sat on the chassis if it is not comprehensively rotten.

You're far better off spending your time cleaning and carefully rust proofing inside the box sections than arbitrarily pulling stuff apart.
