My fan belt got a bit mangled so I immediately went down to the cornershop motor factors.... Didn't have one in so I ordered one up (as a spare!)

Went down to the slightly more warehouse spares place, they have one suitable for a 2cv... something called a 'Gates 6210MC'... but... even with the alternator pushed down as far as it will go, it's still about a belts width to small to go on... I swapped it for the next size up (Gates) which fitted fine! (there is also scope to move the alternator up to take the slack off slightly larger belts as well surely?)

Well! I got my 'cornershop' belt today and it's another 'Gates 6210MC'

Gates 6210MC AVX10 x 750la (if that means summat to sum one!) is not quite right if you want to stick that in your xml database! :ugeek:

No it's a metal one.... Haven't had this problem with other off the shelf belts!

I just think there is a too small one in the 'system', Having just read off other manufacturer's lists! :?

I'd heard that cars built in the last year or two, ('89, '90), used a different sized(bigger?) belt because one of the pulleys was different. And have in the past been sold a belt that was slightly too small. However my car's an '88 and both pulleys look normal.

Does any one have a picture, or accurate description, of a late type, bigger pulley, so that my vague idea could become a bit of definite knowledge.

Joolz,
the rubber mounted pulleys are very easy to spot.
My guess is that Citroen had finally acknowledged there was a problem with the 'spun' fan pulleys and decided to isolate the metal part of the pulley from high speed vibration of the crankshaft.

ken

I bid 763mm for belt length to suit those pulleys.

p.s. @ imo,
You don't happen to have a replacement Iskra type alternator fitted, by any chance?
On some of those, the driven pulley diameter is larger than on the original versions.
