Post Shocker Mounting Point
Steve came in this evening saying that he was getting a funny knock from the rear nearside going round right hand bends - took it for a quick spin and sure enough going around a roundabout there was an odd knocking.

Typical, its pitch black, so get back home, do the usual things, wobble the wheel, no - its not that so not a shot bearing, back it up to the garage and get a light underneath it and WTF! the rear nearside shocker is hanging down at the front GRRRR.....

It would appear its sheered the mounting bolt inside the chassis mounting point - I have made a temporary repair with good old cable ties (where would we be without this multipurpose toolkit?) but question....can one weld up the whole of the rear of the bit that the shock goes onto to the mounting point or does one have to try and get the remains of the bolt out of the chassis and replace?

Better to try and get the bolt out of the chassis and refit a new bolt, or better still use a chassis that uses studs like Citroen did.

then you should be able to take it out and replace it. the citroen studs tend to break leaving the large hex head there so you can just wind it out and replace it. If that's broken off too then drill it out and retap it, and fit a new one.

Its like broken inside the tube, if that makes sense, with about 50mm remaining on the inboard side from the bolt attached to the shocker

Carefully bore out the middle and use speciel tool to unscreew the remaining bolt.

OK thanks guys - sooooooo it looks like I can get a replacement mounting pin from ECAS, which is handy as its 10 mins from us, but as I tend to learn things along the way, what do I use to get the bit of stud out of the chassis? I know you say tap and drill but, to a mechanical virgin, what do I look for?
