Having sold my daily car a little too fast (15 mins!) I've started using my just about finished (not painted, needs a few things) 2cv drummer for my 10 mile commute. Luckily, this is only for this week so it's quite a nice way to find the faults that are left over from the last time it was on the road (1995).

I rebuilt the engine with new pistons/barrels/etc/etc but didn't touch the carb at all. I'm finding that when the engine is warmed up, the idle is pretty high. I've tried winding in the idle stop, but that didn't reduce the idle very much, so I'm presuming that the mixture is a wrong. Would that cause a high idle?

Any tips for getting the idle correct, or is the Haynes correct for the single choke carb?

Before you start looking at the carb, check that both cables are returning "home". I find that on my car the accelerator cable tends to stick partially open sometimes and I need to pop under the bonnet and pull it fully off.

Thanks! The accelerator spindle is returning home correctly, it's a rod actuated carb but I'll check the choke cable which might be stuck on a bit.

he he. Amazing what happens when you shed a little light on the situation. I just drove back in the light, and noticed that not only had my speedo light stopped working but also the speedo.

Popped the bonnet and noticed that the speedo cable was trapped behind the throttle rod. Moved it away, and voila! nice low idling 2cv.

Now I just need to work out why the speedo has stopped working and the speedo lights don't work. If anyone happens to have a photo of the wiring behind a club dash, I'll be very grateful! I checked the supply to the bulb, and it was dead. It was working for the MOT, so must have a loose connection on the bulkhead somewhere.
