Post how high can you go? as aposed to how low can you go!
right so when i jacked my car up to do the kingpins i loved how it looked really high, ok so it was very high as the wheels where off the ground and obviously you wouldnt jack it up that much suspension wise, but how far could i go? wind the tie rods all the way into the shackles? i am the opposite to most, i like my car high in the sky

i was also greasing the drive shafts which i do regularly

also i dont want it so high the drive shafts bounce of the chassis but i geuss there is no limit to how high you could go at the back?

I used to have mine high all round, but I do prefer her low at the front and high at the back. This way you don't look like a twit towing with your bonnet pointing at the sky!!

On a serious note as well, handling was Rubbish with the front high. She's so much better with the front down

i find when i park with the nose pointing down (on a slight hill) all the fuel used to piss out of the tank, i think the float on the carb was getting jammed, going to jack the arse up definatly, may leave front as is and put back up a bit!!

The float could be made from dog shit for all the difference it'd make to fuel leaking out of the tank. If it leaks when filled then it's probably the bit of pipe on the sender unit.

How high depends how long you want to make the suspension arms. If you don't want to modify anything just wind it right up and see. Nobody can tell you exactly how high it will be,

James,
as you wind the front ride height up, the steering's caster angle is reduced.
Wind it too high and the steering will become very vague, with hardly any self-centring action on exiting corners.

( Different car, but this should give you the general idea.

Also, if you don't adjust the bump stops to match the increased ride height, the car will roll excessively in corners, so unless you're planning to go offroad, it's probably a p.i.t.a.

On one of my earlier 2CVs I had to cut the tie rods to get it even higher!!

Extended drive shaft inners helps stop the driveshafts from popping apart.

Isn't there a "saying" that if you want to go high...and still want to be on the safe side, you can use the factory settings for the Mehari??

The Mehari has, according to my books, 23 cm in front and 34 cm at the back. Measured from the mid-point between axle bolts and to the ground, with 135-15 tires.

You can not just raise the car as much as you want to, without fooking up the whole wheel geometry. James, adjusting a stock car too high(or low) can result in dangerous handling abilities of the vehicle! Not that it stops people from doing it, but they should never the less be aware of the consequences.

Another thing is, that if you adjust the suspension by winding in the tie rod ends and fail to adjust the bump-stops, the suspension rods from the spring-cans might break, if the springs get fully compressed during driving.
