Post Supercharger
Continued from Russells Red Spesh topic.

Hi Harley, how much do you reckon it would cost to ship one of them over here? I did try asking a seller once, but the price was quite high, I didn't know if he was ripping me off. I know Viking sends containers down that way occasionally, do you know anybody who ships stuff back up here, would be much cheaper that way.

A lot of the Aussi ones seem to be imported from japan, so how come there's no one importing them directly here, no demand I guess. What's wrong with us Brits that we don't demand secondhand superchargers?

Au$/ £ rate isn't great at the moment, @ 1.6$ to the £, I'm sure a few year back it was more like 3$ to the pound.

4kgs will be close.

Weighed in at 3.8kg's in this configuration
Mine was close to 4.5kgs like this....

I can definitely ask at the post office how much that will cost to send it across the creek.

I am more that happy to purchase a unit for you and post it off Joolz, pm me whenever I can help.

I did find a supplier for Maurice from STP importing them into Germany, I would have to chase that contact though.... :?

Yes we get a lot of Jap import parts here in Aus, something to do with Jap legislation against selling secondhand parts + strict rules against older cars, also that we have so many imported cars and only recently has our government been cracking down on auto wreckers and modified vehicals :?

If it can be posted forget containers, the last ordeal was only worth it because i received some hard to get items (LNS gearbox + Visa Engine) and had a great help from a wayward Viking currently living in France still wearing his Akubra ;) others less fortunate got skrewed buy customs and "handling" fees on parts that where worth less and could have been sent by post, avoiding Invoice handling fee - Inspection fee - Cleaning fee - Reinspection fee - container fee.

Cheers

Harley

:D Thanks Harley, that's really nice of you. I have watched a few on ebay before and they seem to go for about $220-$300 (£135-£185), and if they'd cost about $53 (£32) to post then that's really not too bad. Trouble is, these days money's tight and I don't have a 602 that needs tuning, so I'd have to see one really cheap to be tempted. I'll keep my eyes open and won't forget your offer ;) .

Maybe you don't have a 602, but with your engineering mind Joolz, couldn't you do somewthing with the BMW for that extra BHP?

Just got this message from lovemyturbocar in response to my question to him concerning the weight of the item he's selling in this auction http://cgi.ebay.com.au/ws/eBayISAPI.dll ... TQ:AU:1123

"i would say 2.5 kilos"

Hope this helps.

My mind is going crazy.......
First though;

It has to turn in the right direction ohterwise it won't work at all...

Crankshaft direction has to be the same as the original engine otherwise it doesn't build any pressure... at least I think so am I right?????

If it runs the wrong way you have an excuse to stick it out of the front of the car vintage Bentley style!

I like the idea of the supercharger, but I still think a turbo will be easier and give more bang for the buck.

I thought of that to

I'm not so sure if a turbo will give you more power (don that been there see my topic)

My Smart turbo can generate more then 1.5 bar of pressure and that is already to much for a standard 2cv engine (ignition at about 22 degrees and it will still heavenly knock/pinking?)
When you want to use more then 1 bar of pressure you need to lower the compression say about 7/1.

How much pressure can a supercharger do??????? anybody

I must admit I've not spent an enormous amount of time thinking about turbo or supercharged 2CVs. It strikes me though that if one were to decide to boost a standard engine then you're probably going to run boost at under 1 bar. Somewhere between 7 and 12 psi sounds sensible. With the standard compression ration turbo lag at those levels of boost shouldn't be a huge issue.

If you want to run more boost then as you say you'll need to lower the compression, which will make the off boost performance pretty poor. At that point the supercharger becomes attractive as being driven from the crank it can provide boost at low revs. The disadvantage of the supercharger is that there is a parasitic loss to drive it in the first place. The turbo isn't quite a free lunch but you're not taking power directly from the crank to drive it.
