Anybody got any advice on how to pop the windscreen out of a 2cv without breaking it... or could you point me to another thread that discussed this?

Get a wide flat screwdriver and stast working the inside lip of the rubber past the flange on the screen aperture. The corners are hardest but the screen will come loose without breaking it.

Or cut it out with a Stanley knife and buy a new seal.

Thanks for that, Peter. Just to check that I've understood: I work from inside the car and pop the screen out onto the bonnet, yes?

Oh, another thing. When I met you and the little AZU250 van recently, I seem to remember you mentioned a kind of wax that you can get that people use to seal in the patina of old cars. Do you know its name?

Hi,

Ive done a couple of screens and used a few lengths of carbon fibre/fibre glass made from an old tent pole. Shaped them to flat and just worked around carefully.

Wish you'd asked earlier, as I took a screen out of a 2CV on Saturday to repair the windscreen aperture and only put it back in this afternoon, but no photographs were taken of the 'disassembly' stages. :(

However, maybe worth adding to 250's advice by mentioning that in my experience it's best to work all the way across the top edge first, then start working down the sides in stages, rather than attacking one side at a time.

When you're about 3/4 of the way down both sides, the screen usually starts to tip forwards a bit at the top and if you then pull the whole thing upwards slightly, that should release it from the lower flange...
Or what's left of that part, in the case of the 2CV I was working on.

When refitting the screen, brush Waxoyl (or similar) over the seal and the opening, which will help it to slip back into place easily, as well as providing some rust protection.

i think that's Morris lubricants 'ankor wax'

Put the co-drivers seat as far back as possible.
Place your feet together in upper corner of the windscreen.
Put some pressure on both feet (not to much) too much will break your windscreen. (Maybe 10 kg). work the rubber piece by piece by hand to the outside and move your feet until the rubber of the entire top end is pushed outwards. You will see that the rubber at the side then follows (with a little help from your fingers). When the rubber is nearly completly out release the pressure of your feet.
Now you can lift the rest from outside.

When your window has broken put ducktape on it inside and outside as fast as possible, you can then take the whole windscreen in one piece even when it is broken.

Never broke a windscreen by doing so...... and you can re-use windscreen and rubber.

That's the stuff, it makes the whole car feel like a barbour wax jacket. The disadvantage is that it comes off on a warm day. I'm toying with the idea of clear lacquering the AZU

are you talking more from the point of view of sealing it with the ankor wax?? i sealed mine with simple 3m windscreen sealent

Nobody mentioned sealing the window with Ankor wax! Or even putting the Ankor wax near a windscreen...
