Ok..Can anyone suggest a solution to both pins rusted in both Bonnet and Hinge both sides, (bonnet has parted company from body)

It looks almost impossible to drill out especially in the body hinge bit.....so has anyone got any ideas to solve/re-attach the bonnet??

fastened either side onto the "A" pillar panel just forward of the rear edge of the bonnet. Leave the bonnet catch in situ,and cntinue to use use it as you do [ie,pull the catch,unhook the two hooks and place the bonnet on the roof/floor/kerb/whatever] ....it works,I ran my old Dyane like that for years.
You could of course be posh .....and fit bonnet pins.

I guess they'd work with the sticky-up pin bit fastened to the fresh air vent box .....

you'd have no chance of drilling _along_ the pins, however because the 'tubes' into which the pins fit in both bonnet and body are rolled, it's usually possible to open their seams up and introduce something such as Plusgas to free things off.

Can't remember which way round they are, especially as self medication of brandy and Ibuprofen for crocked back has now kicked in properly, but will have a look tomorrow and report back...

was going to post the same as Ken last night re the rolled hinge

in the past( once the bonnet has gone) i used heat and oil and more heat and more oil etc etc untill eventually the pin started to move. also improvised a slide hammer which hooked on to the eye of the pin

the pin goes a good 50mm or so into the centre section and so that needs the heat too

wasnt much paint left on the front of the car by the time it was done

used a piece of tubing and braised that on to the bonnet as a repair

but then it was all 20 odd years ago

Sounds like a couple of catchers will have to do then!!!



Forgot to say its a sidewinder, so the bonnet catch idea won't work, looks like it will have to be catchers all round and fingers crossed!!

In all the time I ran it, it just had leather straps at the back and spring catches at the front-it never had a bonnet hinge.

So I've got it at original build spec then jon.. Still got the spring catches at the front, and I think I've figured it out at the back, probably going to connect a spring catch aswell at the back connected to the A pillar... That should do the trick , might go for one on the side panels aswell just for luck...As it might start wobbling a bit when I hit 100mph!!!!!!!!
