 Indicator wiring question.
This is a odd one. I have added an indicator tell tale lamp to the dash and used the wires that are already there to wire it in. It works fine, but this is the odd bit and I wondered if anyone could tell me what's up?
When the indicator is flashing the tell tale flashes too as it should, until that is I put my foot on the brake pedal when it stops. The actual indicators keep flashing, just the dash lamp stops. Why might that be - anyone?

 Re: Indicator wiring question.
Has it always been like this?
A cross-fertilizing fault like this - where switching on one electrical system affects another - is usually due to poor earths. If the actual main indicators went dim with the brake pressed, then it would almost certainly be a poor earth at the rear lamp holder. With it being just the tell-tale, tho', I dunno... Perhaps a teeny-tiny poor earth?
Even tho' the indicators continue to work with the brake pressed, are you sure they are every bit as bright? Could someone have a look-see as you press the brake (although they'd have to not be put off by the brake lights lighting up in their face!)
Pure guesswork here.
Or, perhaps it's just a quirk of the 2CV - they all do it?!

Mine doesn't do that, but the tell tale stops working if one of the indicators fails. I reckon DA is right, possibly a bad earth on the back end.

 Re: Indicator wiring question.
My tell-tale is fine also. I've already mentioned on my car's thread that I replaced the slow original flasher unit at Storrington (Inter)National and found that with the tell-tale connected, it caused the new flasher unit to click to it self, without actually making a connection to the tell-tale or indicator lights. I finally reconnected the tell-tale earlier this year and it works perfectly!!

 Re: Indicator wiring question.
It's a mystery to me. I've checked all the earths, and the rear one again when I fit that stop lamp thing recently. I will look to see if the flashers go dimmer though, as my wing mounted one does look dimmer through my side window.

 Re: Indicator wiring question.
Hmm I like a challenge, has it only just started doing this, did it used to work ok?, what's changed recently? I would suspect the earth for the warning lamp of being the problem. At the moment it's earthing through some part of the brake light system, however when the brakes are depressed that part then goes live and the current is no longer inclined to flow through the lamp. Thing is, there shouldn't be any connection between the indicator warning lamp and the brake light systems. Are the other lights on the dash acting normally, as they should all share the same earth.

 Re: Indicator wiring question.
Hiya Mr Nail ....I ran a wire from the spare terminal on my flasher unit to the tell-lamp and straight to earth. I dunno how you've wired yours ....but mine works OK. Sorry I cant be more accurate [or helpful] ....but I'm not the brightest at electrics.
best regards Terry
