Yes I know 'rebel2cv has yet another problem' my oil light is on, the only time it goes off is when I accelerate hard, levels are good, there's a bit of oil on the sump, I'm guessing it's the new breather? |

James.. you should have an oil pressure light? im assuming yours has the standard dash... it should be at the very bottom right hand side underneath the wiper switch? should come on when your ignition is on, and go off once your cars cranked over a few times and should never come on when running! |

I somehow doubt it is the breather. Its function is to keep the sump at slightly below atmopheric pressure so the sump doesn't pressurise and the oil seals start to leak. I assume you have a later engine? Your van wouldn't have had something as luxurious as an oil pressure switch when new. The switch is a simple pressure switch. Apply the minium pressure the switch is rated at, the contact to earth breaks, the light goes off. Worst case scenario is that you really do have low oil pressure. If you do driving the car and accelerating hard will wreck the crankshaft but fast. It could be the switch is faulty, or a bare wire going to the switch earthing out will also cause the light to come on. I'd strongly advise you not to drive the car until you KNOW what the issue is. |

As the sender ages it seems to get more sensitive. My first step would be to try changing the sender. It's located on the side of the crankcases, below the n/s cylinder. A bit fiddly to get at! I'd do it ASAP to make sure you really haven't got an oil pressure problem! |

If its an original engine it won't have a pressure switch. If its a later engine then its a serious possibility its a faulty switch though they are a bitch to change its a simpler job than rebuilding an engine that's blown up through lack of oil pressure. Check first if you have a pressure switch, if not then it will just be a wire earthing out somewhere. |
