I was thinking, is there any good reason not to use motorcycle style fenders on a Raid/off road 2cv?

Just thinking they could be a good alternative here in OZ for raiding, where you don't want to trash your original fenders.

Assuming a bracket can be made up to mount then on the old Frotters(sp?) mounting points??.

I assume you mean the batteur? That is the inertia damper. The frotteur is the friction damper.

If you mount a cycle wing like that it'll move with the wheel. I'd have though it'd be easier to get some cheap fibreglass wings if you don't want to trash the steel originals.

Certainly not cheaper here in OZ, I did purchase some fibreglass wings from England, little did i know that i only purchased the top mudguard, the inner mudguard was not included:evil:
The other problem with fibreglass on a raid car is that it cracks/breaks on impact, at least steel can be panel beat out in the middle of nowhere.


Thats the idea and my main concern for the post, will this cause any unforeseen issues?

If its fitted too close to the wheel you could get it gummed up with mud I guess. I remember seeing some old raid Oz photos where they had removed the rear 2cv wings to avoid the back wheels locking up due to the mud. I guess you'd have to preserve the front wing 'inners' to try to reduce mud / dust / water ingress into the engine bay. But otherwise why the hecks not?

I've not tried it. My gut feeling is that if the cycle wings move with the wheel that there will be clearance issues at the back as the wheel moves for steering. I could easily be wrong though.

You'll also need to brace the light bar as it is far too floppy without the wings.

Can't some of the foreign raiders ship some scruffy wings with their cars? There isn't exactly a shortage of useable but ugly ones.

its un sprung mass and will be subject to a hammering on the washboard/tole ondule surface of un metalled roads

you want as much of the load as possible to be cusioned by the suspension and dampening

Ahhh, good point Sean that is good enough reason not to do it, the corrugations in the outback get hectic
