Yeah it's quite astounding - I'm not sure if ALL roof racks make that noise but its just more audible on the 2cv or if the 2cv ones are just born noisy :?

I'd prefer bars to a rack but they seem quite hard to come by  that way I could put a roof box on

Have a look on ebay for the bars. Any which are made for cars with gutters *should* fit OK. Not sure if Terry B is on here but apparently Paddy Hopkirk System 90 bars are the ones to have. Not quite as good looking as a rack though.

These are what I've got for the Dyane:

Post Re: CB Radio
For my last Raid Poronkusema trip I got a Midland 78 Plus 80 Channel CB Transceiver from Maplins.
http://www.maplin.co.uk/Module.aspx?ModuleNo=31887

It was mounted in the roof behind the driver and so could be heard OK and the aerial was on the boot

One thing to note is that the UK uses a different frequency for CBs than mainland Europe so if you want to chat to our LHD chums over the water you need to get a unit that can switch ranges.

Another useful thing to do is put a sticker on the back of your 2CV with your channel number so should you meet any other CB2CVs they will know what channel you are on.

hmm... I test fitted some roof bars for the czech trip the other week. The noise was unbelievable! They're definitely not staying on all the way there...

Make a deflector:

Rick made one up for my (borrowed) roof rack and the difference was amazing.

Channel 23 for us, or the common channel for 2cvers in holland and other countries is 22 (two little ducks!)

Got a cb set, similar to Mark (sf,pr) from a cb shop on the M5.

Used in Finland to save me and Rick from driving to far into "no-mans-land" near the Russian border.
Has a UK/EU selection switch, Both have 40 channels, but the UK channels are at a slightly different frequency to rest of the EU! hence the additional sticker on UK radios.

With regards to the antenna the more metal surrounding the base and mounted has high up as possible all the better.
Also worth chosing an antenna that has a plug at both ends of cable, makes fitting much easier.

Thanks for all the input on CB radios. Maplin have got a grade B (pre-owned) Midland 78 eu/uk transceiver reduced to £49.99 which seems like a good deal.

I rekon I'll stick with the roof rack for CZ as oposed to the bars, particularly with the recomendation of a deflector... why didnt I think of that :D
