I'm thinking of fitting one for the international as I want to try and not use my mobile. The seem fairly cheap on ebay. Any recommendations on what aerial / base unit / other equipment I might need?

I'd say don't buy the cheapest one you can find, get a good quality jobbie, mine was a £50 cheapy from Maplins, and whilst its not bad at all, it's hard to hear whats being said over it, I'd just take a chance with the best specced CB you can find on ebay.

a lot of the cheaper CB's are ok, but to able to hear what's being said i suggest an external speaker, something like this:

It's just a case of plugging it in & finding somewhere to mount it - i had mine on the wiper motor hump on the dash & it worked well. There are several ways to mount a mast/aerial, but i'd be careful if you're considering a gutter mount - 2cv's gutters aren't really suitable for the gutter mounts i've seen & with a 3/4ft long aerial waving around in the wind at motorway speeds it'll put a great deal of strain on the gutters.

You can get mag mounts of differing sizes & these seem to be pretty good, although finding a surface to mount them on can prove tricky - although if you've got a boot extension on then that'd be ideal. I think TIMMY has his mounted on the rear bumper & his works very well.

Yup you need a decent mount on a 2cv - either a mag mount on the bootlid or bolt it to the bumper. Another tip is to get a SWR meter and tune the aerial to your travelling companions to make sure you are all getting optimal signal.

Deffo go for an external speaker as anything abouve about 30 mph drowns out the built in one!

Maplins also stocks a range of CB stuff if you have one local.

my CB is a retro old skool ebay special for about £45 but it seems to be mint! work well and has the annoying to others over beep!
aerial originally fitted to my stock bumpers via a hole i made in them to take the mounting. then after fitting adventure bumpers i adjusted it by buying a mirror mount for trucks. the ami has a gutter mount but even ami gutters are a little weak for them and my large pole sways about in the wind

external speaker is a must! otherwise forget it.

Nah, just drill through the top of the front wing and bolt it in there.

hmm... I test fitted some roof bars for the czech trip the other week. The noise was unbelievable! They're definitely not staying on all the way there...
