I used a single roof rack with the aerial mounted in the centre. This gave maximum height and minimum risk of damage (on a Raid car). The speaker was mounted on the roof cross bar just behind the front seats, very close to the driver's and front passenger's ear. Made it easy to hear above the engine, road and wind noise.
