I've had a look for a thread about tyres in general, but I've been unable to find one so I've posted a new thread.

My question:- I have 135 Michelins on the car, but my spare is a 135 Mabor. Can I use that on the road? Am I right in thinking the profile(side wall) for both makes is 80?

Theoretically and legally, yes, providing both tyres are 135/80/15 then you can use it as a spare. If it's a different size, then again, you can but it comes under the maximum 50mph/80kmh temporary speed restriction as any other space saver tyre would be.

Having had both, I'm sure the Mabor is slightly smaller than the Michelin. If in doubt, make sure the odd tyre is on the rear.

I don't know if the 135 michelins have a higher than standard profile like the 125s. Try standing the spare next to one of the michelins on the car, if they look the same size then they're close enough to use together. If you want to be really anal you could measure the circumference with a tape, but make sure they've got the same pressure in them and remember that 5mm difference in tread depth would give 31mm difference in circumference. :geek:

Legally, yes. If no profile's marked, it's usually presumed to be 80% - and for MOT purposes, that's what counts - but they can vary. Mich 125 X are nearer 90%, IIRC.

But would you want to? Mebbe on the back, but it'd handle bloody odd with a mismatch like that on the front...

Broken record:

It's handle twice as wierd with a pair of mabors on the front.

Michelin 125 X are 90 profile, 135 ZX are 80 profile, but if Mabor 135s are 80 profile(and I think they are) then I should be able to fit as a stop gap(till I can get a replacement Michelin). Anyway, thanks chaps.
