Hi!

Was wondering whether someone would be able to help me with fuel pump issues. On both the Dyane and 2cv, the fuel-pump diaphragm has lost its strength, and not being able to get a replacement diaphragm, I fixed an electric pump. However, this does not seem to be the best solution, as the pump does not work like the original. ECAS does not seem to have this part listed (diaphragm only). Could I get some help as to how to procure this part?

Regards,

Steve.

I don't think you can replace the diaphragm in some (later?) pumps, I know mine went and we were told its new pump time. If possible, a phone call to ECAS usually provides all the answers, I've found anyway! :D

Just replace the pump. The non-return valves often give hassle on aging pumps, too.

Is this a common problem on 2cv's?

I had a 2cv that when I took it onto motorways was fine, till I put my foot to the floor, then it would start to splutter and lose power very quickly. As soon as I eased up and rolled onto the hard-shoulder it would right it self. Turned out to be the fuel pump. The arm that goes down to the cam and operates the pump had worn enough to cause fuel starvation with both chokes open on carb, with just part throttle,it was fine.

You could try making something from an old marigold glove or even a condom (best to avoid the ribbed ones as they probably wont make a good seal....featherlight ...well even in proper use a bit dodgey...I would go extra strong....super strength...just pick your chemist wisely....dont wait until that rainy weekend in Brighton !)
