How much tie rod thread should be left in the end shackle?
I want to lower the front of mine a bit further and wondered how much tie rod needs to remain in the end loop, i think I'd heard 1.5cm?
Weird thing is, at the back I only have 11mm of thread visible and at the front there's 110mm visable, yet still the rear wing hangs between the middle and top of the hubcap - i'd like the rear wing at the top of the hub cap.
Shall I just screw it all the way in at the back?

When you screw the tie rod 1 cm in or out, the car will raise or lower 4 cm.
The 1,5 cm could be right.

I'm sure Uncle Ken mentioned at least 10mm to me once.

In the hex shaped shackles there's only 15mm of tapped length in the end anyway.

Re: How much tie rod thread should be left in the end shackl
remember the central cans should be floating and the cans set with a certain ammount of free play as well as the can supports being set up properly
you can wind up one end and it moves the other
however only 10mm left on the tie rod suggests somethings not right as all mine are nearer 40mm thread left front and back

Just to clarify this - I think Sam means "how much thread should be wound into the shackle as a MINIMUM to be safe?" For instance, you wouldn't only wind it in a couple of turns so it just bites, would you

Clean out the tie rod end eye to see how much thread there is. That should indicate your minimum.
