So after changing the loom over, the brake fluid test switch, when pressed the light doesnt ligt up. What so ever. And i used to be on when button was pushed

had a play with spare wires and no such luck

Also. As this loom was of a charlie, ddnt they have volt metres in the dash? If so woukd it be easyto wire one in? Or easier not to bother?

Does it come on when you take the lid off the brake fluid reservoir?



There should be an ignition-live kicking around behind the dash for that purpose, yes.

Just press the little button on top of the reservoir .....it should light up [wot youre doing is pressing the float down].



The wires could well be in the loom for a voltmeter .....but best to check if a large speedo outa a Charlie will fit first [I think I read somewhere that the mountings are different and the Clubs/Charlies have an extra piece in the part that it bolts to]

I liberated a "volt meter" [ aka Charge Rate Indicator actually ] from the dash of an old [scrapped] Dyane and wired it in myself .....'tis quite handy,except that being on the side of the speedo binnacle thingy .....I cant see it in the dark [which I guess is when its really needed]....

pressed button, still no light so im going to have the dash out in next few days and play with the spare wires that are there

Start looking at the light rather than the button, then.

ive looked at all, ive obviously put the wrong wire on it, im sure the correct one is floating around at the back of the dash somewhere, the bulb is fine also

afaik, it's not possible to detect the presence, or absence, of voltage by looking at something...

My suggestion is that James stops working on electrics on a 'join the dots' basis and starts putting the tools of the trade into play.
Find that multimeter, James, set it to 20 volts range and check it there's any voltage reaching the warning light bulb socket when the ignition is 'on'.
If there is, that's a good start.

Don't forget to disconnect the coil and the 'plug in' lead on the alternator whilst you're working on other circuits which are only live when the ignition is on.
