I'm trying to get the wiring up to scratch on my drummer, and I'm struggling with the indicator circuit. Fuses are new and there is 12v across the fuse that controls that circuit. I've got no hazard switch at the moment - would that stop the indicators working? It seems from the wiring diagram in the haynes that it might, but I wanted to check first. Being 1975, it doesn't need hazard warning lights for the MOT so if I can get it mot'd without buying that switch it'd be a plus point at the moment. Cheers, Ben |

Assuming your car has a loom fitted which is similar to a post '81(the only wiring diagram that I've got to hand) then yes it would need the switch to be fitted for the indicators to work. Without a switch it should be possible to make the indicators work by fitting a jumper lead across two of the switch connections, the white one and the grey one,(the white one to the black one would also work if you wanted to used the indicators with the ignition off), although I stress again that that is based on a post '81 wiring loom. For further info; Black - permanent live Grey - live from ignition White - feed to flasher unit Red - from flasher unit Green - to lefthand indicators Yellow - to righthand indicators Brown - to hazard warning light on dash |

Thanks Joolz. Hmm - I have no idea what loom is fitted, it seems to be quite a mishmash of wires, I'll study the wires in the car again and maybe give jumping two a go. Cheers, Ben |

if your ever unsure, when jumping, make sure you dont make a permeant connection when you jump, at first anyway, just incase youve had a blonde moment like i did, and by the time youve cut the wire or un plugged it its to late |

The hazard switch is quite a complicated beastie - it "cuts out" several bits of the normal circuit when activated. In other cars (the basic setup is the same), I've had duff hazard switches leave me with no indicators. |

semi irrelevant, but one of my bulbs went today, the rear, and i thought it had gone, but loose connection, i still bunged a new bulb in anyway, as the one in there is 22 years old, and its brighter, but when i was indication, the, click clack sound that it makes to tell you you are indication, it would click once, and then not click. does yours click at all? (sorry for the semi irrelevant post) |

Thanks James, No I don't even get a click, but I think the problem is that the hazard switch is not there, so there's no juice at all. I'll bridge it tonight and see what happens. |

I did indeed grab myself a bargain. Armed with my 99p hazard switch I now have indicators clacking away very merrily. |
