Post Ducellier starter problem - pinion grinding on flywheel
Hi - first post on this forum, been on 2CVBG for a bit though....hello!

Bit of a strange one this;

i recently had to take the engine & gearbox out of the car. The starter was working fine before (famous last words) - i now have a problem

1. the pinion is grinding on the flywheel and after inspection is knackering it a bit
2. the electrics seem okay as it's spinning (hence the grind)
3. i thought it may be a slack starter cable - it still grinds when i pull the lever by hand, though once i push it quite hard it does engage with the fly
4. does the lever have any sort of adjustment to get the pinion nearer the flywheel

i should point out that the starter casing does not attach flush to the bellhouse - there is a 2 or 3mm bracket in between, used to a create another bracket for the throttle rods / mechanism to thread onto; it's an M28 in a M4 Ami so i THINK that the bracket has been fabricated to cope with the change in engine - HOWEVER, it's gone back the same as before, and it worked before. hmmmm?

any advice would be great, thanks
Will

Hi Will, is that Will from Bristol that had the gearbox off me?

If so, is it worth checking that nobody had filed the mounting for the starter down a bit on the old 'box to allow for this bracket?

Other than that, no idea whatsoever-it's too early for brain power...............

Hi John

It is I - Bristol Ami Will (Willami geddit)

I wrote the message last night after much much much head scratching. the answer came to me at 1.15am this morning!!! i was fitted the fabricated bracket in between the starter and bellhouse - it was meant to go before the bracket on the bolthead ends of the starter

moral of the story - TAKE PHOTOS BEFORE DISMANTLING!!!! :oops: :oops: :oops:

cheers for the advice anyway
will
