 HELP! TRACE HIT AND RUN...
Does anyone know a way of finding the owner of a vehicle, if you know the Reg number if the police dont seem to want to get involved, or tracing their insurance?
Mike was hit today in Nippy and has stove in the nearside door and front pillar and pissed off without stopping and whilst he has reported it to plod they seem very uninterested in chasing down the driver......

There's some info on circumstances that the DVLA will release such information, here; http://www.iacinvestigations.co.uk/find-owns-car/

If you've got a reg number, chase up the cops. When you say "not interested" do you mean they have said they don't intend to do anything at all? Or are they just not responding as quickly as you'd like?
If a PC has said something along the lines of "Meh, nothing we can do" I'd kick up a bit of a fuss with the sarge down at the station, see what happens from there.

Re: HELP! TRACE HIT AND RUN...
Mike had got in a bit of a flap and when I rang and spoke with the control centre they said that he must have misunderstood the pc. It would now seem that he needs to take his details in to a local station and they will then progress it from thereon

Best of luck. I hope you can resolve the situation and gain some sort of recompense.

Re: HELP! TRACE HIT AND RUN...
Phew, that's more like it! I know we hear some pretty sad tales about the cops, but in general they do a nifty job. I'd have thought this would be a tasty one for them - hit and run - although the item hit was 'only' a car... Does Mike have 'Legal Protection' as an option on his insurance policy, I wonder? A very useful thing to have - they should do all the sorting out for you after the cops have had a 'word' with the ar**hole. If he - or you - doesn't have this option on your policy, here's a tip: instead of paying the usually inflated amount for this option on your car insurance, and then doing the same again with your household insurance, remove these options and instead take out comprehensive cover with: http://www.autosure.eu/ Around £24 covers everything and everybody in your family. That's what I'm doing from this year. For ANY problems you have - from buying a dodgy car to receiving poor service from a garage, from neighbour disputes to faulty appliances (oh, and car accident damage) they will put in place a legal team to sort it for you. The only criteria is that it must be a valid case with a reasonable expectation of a win - fair enough.

Mrs Bertie was hit by an uninsured driver a couple of years ago with a less than satisfactory conclusion. Even though the offenders vehicle was abandoned and the police were able to trace it to someone, they told her that they couldn't pursue it as the driver claimed he was borrowing the car from a driver who had only had the car 2 weeks. To me that is complete b*****x as if both buyer & seller had completed the necessary paperwork, SOMEONE would be in the frame. The trouble is, as I'm not at home during the week, I wasn't around to ask the right questions at the right time. What I'm trying to say is: don't get fobbed off, if you have the details, it should be easy to trace the owner & investigate.

Some pics of the damage - looks like a new front bit of sill, A pillar, Door, Hinge etc.

What a bloody shame. Any luck with tracing the runner?
