Post subject: | door seals |
Hi all,my name is Dave and this is my first post, just bought my first 2cv,a lovely Red Special,1989,which i will be renovating over the winter. My first question is about changing the door seals, any tips? It doesnt look difficult but i would rather ask you knowledgable people first. |

Hi Dave. Very easy to change the door seals, after removing the old ones clean up the channel on the door where they sit as it usually has rust, then put some waxoyl in there and refit your new rubbers. It may be necessary to bend the channel open slightly to help get them in to begin with, the waxoyl will help you slide them in, then after they are seated all round just bend the channel back to hold them in place. The front doors should have a small retaining clip in the bottom front corner also. |

Do it on a warm day. I have used cheap shower gel in the past to help to slipping and a slidding. ps they are also handed so make sure you know which of your old ones came out of which channels. |

My advice is not to touch the channel lip. The seal has a bad habit of coming off when using the door. Use rubber grease and push the seal in to the channel with an blunt screwdriver. Just be gentle, no worries. |
