Just out of curiosity more than anything - does anyone (Chapman, i bet  ) know what's required when MOTing an earlyish 2cv?

How do people get around the seatbelt issue with suicide doors? Indicators - i know they are very much for your & other drivers safety, but are they required for MOT purposes? Will the 'Teddies ears' fail? Wipers -anyone know how to convert a speedo driven wiper set up using a later disc brake box? I'm guessing having the hand operated only gubbins in place is not acceptable?

Stuff like windscreen washers, Hazard lamps etc.

Neil.

Hazard lamps aren't an issue, 'screen washers ARE an issue, seat belts came in around '64-ish, or so. For the most part Neil, you shouldn't need to worry about MOT'ing a suicide door 2cv, if it was legal at the time, then it's mostly ok. I had a '61 Morris Minor Tourer(convertible) that had trafficators fitted, but from late '61-64 the rear brake lights flashed (red, of course) and the front side lights flashed(clear lens), from the factory. You would have a problem with the wipers though, some early cars running M28s have had a later wiper motor butchered on  .

The rules aren't retrospective. The issues are with seatbelts on imported cars, one of the reasons Citroen stopped importing 2CVs was seatbelts. Anything post

Post 1st of Sept '65 indicators must be orange, before that flashing brake lights are allowed. Semaphore indicators are allowed.

Hazard warning lights are not required before April 1st 1986

Seat belts must be fitted if vehicle is post Jan 1st 1965.

Speedo driven windscreen wipers will pass an MOT "original design characteristics are to be accepted"

http://www.motinfo.gov.uk/htdocs/index.htm

Where there's a "doesn't apply to registered before" date, it tells you when that is.

If it ain't explicitly listed as a "Reason for rejection", it can't fail on it.

Thanks guys!

With regards the speedo operated wipers; i'm not entirely sure of the set-up, but has anyone successfully retained it when using a disc brake box?

I can't see why it'd make much difference what's turning the speedo cable.
