Post Maximum Tyre Size
Hey Y'all

Has anyone got a clue on what is the maximum tyre size you can 1) Put on a standard 4J rim and 2) that will fit in a Dyane rear wing?

BTW Looking at a 165/65...

Cheers NTB

175/65 Mini One tyre on a 4.5" GSA rim.

I've seen 195 offroad tyres on 2cv rims - but with a lot more sidewall to absorb the difference. That Mini tyre was a bugger to fit - took one person standing on the tyre on the machine to persuade it to squeeze on. Really, really tight fit. 165 on a 4" rim would be _almost_ the same fit (10mm less tyre, 12mm less wheel), so should be similar.

a 155 tyre is bulging outward on a standard rim. 145 can be fitted with no problems.

Even a 145 although it fits needs the front lock limit stops ajusted or you get a shiny patch on the front suspension arm, thats a mot no no. And may need the inner rear wing "relieved"

didnt that red oxide roof chop hot rod special that was doing the rounds have silly size tyres on standard rims 200odd/85 or something?

I bought some 165/50x15, tried with the best equipment to fit them, simply will not mount onto a standard 2cv rim.

I'm curious why you want to put big tyres on the back.

Pizza cutters are the way forward on a 2cv/Dyane
Less rolling resistance, less frontal area, more speed!

Just another thought, is this for your 602 dyane or your sidewinder? I assume, maybe incorrectly, that the sidewinder is on an ami super chassis, with ami rear arms, which iirc give a narrower track than 2cv or dyane arms.

I have 175/65 on my Ami Super rims.... they fit fine! (on the front) Plus they are about the same rolling dia as stock wheels and tyres.

They are for the sidewinder - it understeers like a pig with 145 Firestones and any 145 x 15 are a real pain to source.

I will be putting a set all round - not just on the rears - but in answer to Russell, I suspect it does have a slightly narrower track as when we lowered it a little, without spacers the 145's rub the inner wheel arch on the rear.

In answer to Sean, funnily enough, we have no problems with the fronts rubbing the steering arms.

Thanks all for your replies
