| Post subject: | Alternator alternatives |
My 2cv needs a new alternator (well, really it needs new bearings but I don't have the time to replace them at the moment). I need to get the car mot'd, I was wondering if there are any alternatives to the standard 2cv alternator - perhaps one that might be obtained a little cheaper than £75 ? Thanks, Ben |

Your local auto-electrician should be able to replace the bearings for a lot less than that. Anyway, £75 isn't a bad price for an alternator - a quick google shows them at about a ton for common stuff like Focuses. |

a set of brushes and a nose bearing should give you change form a £20 note its almost as quick as changing the alternator, bearings can be got either on line or from local bearing supplier. Sean PS. ducellier and paris rhone use a 15-25-11. rear for the paris one 10-26-8 no listing for duc. femsa lists the whole front assy as replacement but the bearing can be pressed(hammered) out no listing and cant remember where my one is to measure, rear 13-32-10 iskra states "40-17-12" which is prob a mistake as its bore cant be bigger than its outer diameter! so prob 17-40-12 rear is 12-32-10 anywy measure it(usual nomelacature is: bore/shaft dia, outer/housing dia, thickness)and you cant go wrong duc has a rivited carrier plate inside the housing the rivets can be re used or tap out to M5 the others have bolted carrier |

Thanks you two! Yeah, I appreciated that £75 isn't a bad price, but I can't just nip down my local scrappy and pick one off an old 2cv anymore. I was just wondering if there was a direct swap from something else. Looks like it's a bearing replacement job then. Thanks for the specs Sean, I'll go see what is fitted. |
