Post Rear Sway Bar
Has anyone got a pic of a rolling chassis fitted with a rear sway bar for a 2cv?

I have a front fitted and am thinking how to do it for the rear... Haven't looked at clearances yet but i am hoping i can have one made up to run along the top of the rear crossmember and attach with two brackets either side on top of the rear arms???

Cheers

Haley

Citroen themselves put a rear anti-roll bar onto the Ami Super (can't remember if it was saloon & estate or just estate). The way you describe it is pretty much how they did it, but in front of the axle tube, rather than over the top. There's a pic from one of the brochures which shows it quite well - I've got a very small scan, but I'll try and get round to scanning it better for you after the weekend. Drop me an email to remind me.

I'm interested in fitting a rear anti roll bar too, probably for different reasons to you. Because Ami bits ar a bit of a cock to get hold of nowadays (there was a grubby front one for sale at giel, one hundred and thirty euros!!!) I reckon it's possibly time to head to a scrapyard with a tape measure. Almost every modern car seems to have one fitted and I reckon there must be something that's adaptable to fit the back arms and chassis of a 2cv.

Easy enough to get a few bent up if someone has a design or a pattern.

I assume they're made from a specific steel? I don't think there would be demand enough to have a run of them made.

The easiest way to make small runs is to bend them up out of the approriate steel and weld the mounting points into the ends. By multi drilling a flat plate they become adjustable as well as easier to make in small numbers.

As you say, probably too much bother for the demand. You'd still need to source bushes and mounting brackets.

I'm not sure how special the steel is, but I don't see why regular mild steel couldn't be tried, what's the worst that could happen. I've always wondered if it would be possible to run a bar down the middle of the axle tube if the brake pipes were coaxed out of the way slightly or reroute them outside the axle using flexi hoses from another citroen. It would also need one bracket to be removable so it could be slid through the axle.

Might as well just do them old-2cv style, with the flexis going from arm straight to chassis.
