Can anyone do me a simple diagram of what is supposed to be there?
I have a front indicator with two empty studs on the back, and a single short wire from the central contact, and that's it. My main questions are:

1/ Should there be an earth connection to one of those empty studs?

2/ Should the wire from the central contact have another one coming off it to feed the side repeater?

3/ What type of end should I fit to these wires male or female?

Once I know this I can start looking for where they connect into the wiring harness!

On mine the lower stud is an earth, and I don't have side repeaters so I can't comment on those. Not sure at all about the rest.

Yes. Citroen put it to one of the bolts holding the light bar to the chassis. Pain in the arse, because you need to move the wing a bit to get at the bolt before you can disconnect the earth to remove the wing. My (by no means unique) usual solution is to put it to a ring terminal to the bolt holding the triangular panel to the wing.

That's all done "in the wing" - one wire from the light bar, which then splits into two.

Usual "best practice" is to put a female on the live end, so that if you leave it disconnected it won't short. Then vice-versa on an earth, so that you can tell at a glance which is the earth.

Mine go White [m] into Brown [f] .....both sides .....I suspect that it should have been white [m] into White [f] ....and then [somehow :? ]
brown [m] into brown [f] for the side repeaters .....
But  ..... as I did away with the side repeaters a few years ago .....I cant be any more helpful ....sorry [no doubt some-one will be along shortly with a "standard" wired car]

hth .....for now ....

This is where the problem lies. My wiring harness is from one car, the wings from another, and the indicator units (sans wires) from a third. That leaves me unable to simply look what I have and then look on the wiring harness to see where they might fit! I need to add new wires to the light units to connect them somehow to the power and side repeaters, and earth them.

The earthing point that Adrian suggests sounds like a good solution, so having done that I now need to attach a feed wire to the unit which possibly (?) doubles as the feed wire to the repeater, then find where they hook up to the main spaghetti. Hmmm..

On each side of the light bar, you've got a little block of wires for each headlight. The loom has a similar bunch each side. Except the loom has one extra wire each side - for the indicator. Two minutes with a multimeter will tell you which is which, although the light ones would've been colourcoded originally (just match the bar to loom). The indicators are the ones which go +12v then 0v then +12v then 0v... <wink>

Multimeter? What is this thing of witchcraft thou sayest? Lest it be a divining rod, alas I possess no such object. And....

I notice someone has previously added a wire to the harness here and there just to confuse matters. I'll wire it up to whatever I can find and ask the Mrs is it working, although being blonde she might say "yes...No...Yes....No"

It is an amulet bearing magical powers, serving to convince the demons lurking within of the seriousness of thine intent. Once the powers of the meter have been demonstrated, the demons bow to your will.

Thou thinkest that you lot are bonkers! If you havent got a multimeter, a bulb holder and a length of wire with a crocodile clip works just as well...SSD

Ah good. I was just going to look for one in my multi layered snap on tool kit in the boot of the Bentley, but a bulb on a wire sounds more like it. 8-)
