I have no understanding of electrics, but you did connect it to the - wire from the points? not t'uther one from the loom?

mauve i think anyway one goes in to the loom with the headlamp stuff, t'other pairs up with the oil press feed and goes down the front of the engine and dives in thru the fan housing thats the one. you need to piggy back it not just pull the wire off and attach it to the rev counter

you sure you have the right wires going to + and ground on the tach

yeh I have + & - correct because otherwise it reads the wrong way or not at all, I haven't piggy backed it which i guess is my problem on mine the blue one goes down the front of the engine and into cowling.

IIRC when I had a G tacho in my first 2cv, the earth was critical - without the tacho being earthed, the engine wouldn't run at all.

It's a long while since I played with one - what wires has the tacho got? Are they labelled at all? The illumination should be obvious - ignore that for the mo.

The points lead still needs to go to the coil - otherwise there'll be no spark. You just need to double-up from there (to test, just strip the end of a wire, and tuck it inside the bullet connector)

I think its an earth problem judging by the 3 electric shocks I just got off the back of the casing, hmmm i will have to get it to earth this is probably why my engine doesn't run when its connected up thanks for that adrian I am not sure how it will earth if its not earthing properly off that wire

The wires it has are
positive
earth
and input
